This year, we had an incredible Erasmus+ mobility experience in Amasya, Turkey. Our stay was unique as we were warmly welcomed into the homes of local families, which provided us with a deep and authentic cultural immersion.
Little Climate Activists Workshop: A Model United Nations Simulation (EON’MUN)
One of the highlights of our trip was participating in the "Little Climate Activists" workshop, a Model United Nations simulation (EON’MUN). This activity allowed us to engage deeply with global environmental issues, debate solutions, and develop our understanding of climate action. The experience was both educational and inspiring, as we assumed the roles of various countries' delegates, discussing and proposing solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
Exploring Amasya
Amasya, with its rich history and stunning landscapes, offered us numerous opportunities to explore and learn. We visited several remarkable sites:
- Borabay Nature Park: Nestled in a serene environment, Borabay Nature Park is a haven for nature lovers. We enjoyed the breathtaking scenery, hiking trails, and the tranquil lake, which provided a perfect setting for reflection and relaxation.
- Old Town / Amasya Historical Houses: Wandering through the Old Town, we were transported back in time by the well-preserved historical houses of Amasya. These Ottoman-era buildings, with their unique architecture and historical significance, offered us a glimpse into the past.
Excursion to Tokat
We also had the opportunity to visit the neighboring city of Tokat. One of the most fascinating parts of this trip was our visit to a traditional fabric dyeing factory. Here, fabrics are still dyed by hand using centuries-old techniques. This visit not only showcased the rich textile heritage of the region but also emphasized the importance of preserving traditional crafts in a modern world.
Conclusion
Our Erasmus+ mobility in Amasya was an enriching experience that combined cultural exchange, environmental education, and historical exploration. Staying with local families added a personal touch to our journey, making it a memorable and impactful adventure. We returned home with new perspectives, friendships, and a deeper appreciation for both the natural world and cultural heritage.
